“Livestock guardian dog” refers to very specific breeds of dogs. These dogs are considered primitive and have unique characteristics that allow them to think independently and with tenacity as they guard their “charges” (livestock).

Livestock guardian dogs cannot just be thrown out with livestock. They need to be introduced carefully, so that negative associations are avoided. We believe that over the time Artemis was exposed to goats she had enough negative experiences to cause the reactivity that we are seeing now. We are confident time and training will bring her back around and we hope to document this journey as we head into summer.
