Lindale Mall is a climate controlled trail where old men and women stretch their legs in the early morning, and when it is too cold out to go for a walk. As of now, Von Maur is the only department store since the closing of Younkers and Sears.

The Mall is often quiet , slow, with a lots of security an very few clients. During my recording I was approached by an over zealous mall security asking about my business in the mall. I perhaps looked suspicious for i was filming the storefront of a jewelry store.


I also saw an heavily tattooed man being fallowed. Later that day, I witnessed a mother being harassed for breast feeding her very young child, in the enclosed play area, by that same mall cop. She was asked to feed her baby in the bathroom.

The mother has another a five year old girl with her whom was plying with another little boys who seems to be around the same age.

By the way is perfectly legal in Iowa for a mom to feed her child in a public space.

Hence, I visited the restroom where she was ask to go. The restroom was unkept, and wooden borders on the the stall was decaying. There were no soap for one to wash one’s hands. The soap dispenser seems to be broken. Thus not a safe place for young kids to roam around.

I think Lindale Mall is in decline for the past 3 years. It is the only mall in the Cedar Rapids area. Thus a unicorn, the last of its kind. It’s bound to go extinct.
