After more than a hundred years as a bachelor, the Earth God at Fude Temple in Hsinchu’s Xinfeng Township finally got married. Worshippers believed the Earth God was lonely without a partner, and thought he would be happier with the company of the Earth Goddess. They threw moon blocks five times to ask the deity whether he’d like to get married, and got "yes" every time. And so they honored the deity’s wish with a grand wedding ceremony.

The festivities kicked off on Wednesday, complete with music, firecrackers, and dowries. There was even a wedding banquet to celebrate the union. The god’s followers were delighted on this jubilant occasion and say they are thrilled that the Earth God has found the love of his immortal life.
