In this video, we look at my off the grid communications setup and I give you a complete beginner guide to Meshtastic and Atak for your outdoor adventures. Everything we will cover in this video: We start with an explanation of Meshtastic Mesh Networks and the Android Team Awareness Kit. What is Meshtastic? What is Atak? I will show you which Meshtastic boards I use, where you can buy them, and how to set up your first Meshtastic node and flash the new firmware to the device. We will set up Atak on your Android phone and download Atak Maps, and I will show you how to use offline maps in Atak. We also look at rubber sheets in Atak - a tool for overlaying maps on satellite imagery. Perfect for your airsoft game days, milsim, or hiking adventures. I will show you how I set up my own open Tak ATAK server on a Raspberry Pi 4 and how you can connect to my server using ATAK for testing. Finally, I will give you an overview of my voice comms and what other cool add-ons are available for Meshtastic nodes.

Tap 3 Button - add
Name: PhoenixFeather Tak Server
Address: phoenixfeather.duckdns.org
Use Authentication: Username: PFA Password: PFA123456789
Check Enroll for Client Certificate
Check Advanced Options
Check SSL
Serverport: 8089
Check “Use default SSL/TLS Certs
Go back up and UNCHECK “Enroll with Preconfigured Trust
Hit OK
