AUTISM: SCHOOL - Mainstream vs Special Needs (SEN)

Choosing the right school for a child with autism is hard.

This video talks about our struggles with finding a school for our son, and deciding whether he should go to a mainstream or a special needs school.

Choosing a school for our son Alfie, who has autism & global development delay, was one of the most stressful times of our life.

The decision was huge and daunting - there were arguments for both sides of the school system and also fears surrounding any choice we made. It's scary handing over a vulnerable child to strangers, especially one that had only just started to talk.

Alfie has a full EHCP so that gave us the option of all the schools, we were very lucky. Ill be discussing the process to get the EHCP plan in a future video, so please subscribe to this channel.

I am asked a lot why we made the decision that we did and many people are surprised, but Alfie is safe, secure and happy so far (we review his needs regularly) so we are happy that for now, he is in the right school.

There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to your child, you can only do what you feel is right as a parent. Its so tough.

I support every parents right to choose their child's school based on their individual needs, this was just the right choice at the time for our son.
