You might find you've paid for an independent survey, and you think you will save money. This client paid for an independent damp survey and the surveyor blamed plaster bridging the dpc, without any opening up. This isn't unusual, and fortunately the client paid me for a 2nd opinion. It was pretty obvious on checking the drains this was the cause of the damp issue. The drain was also damaged where the path had been installed, which was the root cause.

If you pay for a damp survey and they cant even be bothered to run the taps..... it's probably best you take the advice they offer with a pinch of salt, and ask for a damp survey refund. Remember you have paid for a damp survey to find the root cause, not for a surveyor to turn up in his best suit to stab the walls with a damp meter to tell you the walls damp.....you can see that!

A patch liner was installed and the path left in situ, along with some drying equipment installed. Root cause found, and all that was needed when we finished was some decoration. If my client had followed the advice from the independent damp surveyor they would have spent a few thousand pounds, and still not solved the issues.
