Mental illness is a struggle many people deal with silently and the stigma attached makes it even harder to fight, but thanks to these a-list champions, sufferers have a voice.

Child actress turned hit pop star Demi Lovato has never shied away from talking about her bipolar disorder, substance abuse and eating disorder.

But with that openness, she provides hope.

In an interview with Extra she expressed that “there is a possibility of living well with mental health” and that “your mental illness doesn’t have to define who you are as a person.”

Halsey

Halsey has also been an open book about her mental health struggles telling Rolling Stone, she’s “not ashamed of talking about it.”

In fact she has teamed up with Entercom as part of their I’m Listening initiative to raise awareness and break the taboo surrounding mental health.

"I think the one thing I like to remind myself is your struggle will never get better it will just get different and you will get more equipped to handling it."

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez is one of the biggest pop artists and she herself has struggled with her mental health, recently revealing she struggles with bipolar disorder.

Her candid conversations about her anxiety and depression earned her the 2019 McLean Award for Mental Health Advocacy.

Lady Gaga

Like her colleagues, Lady Gaga has also been open about her chronic pain, PTSD, and the fact that she used to self harm. It has led her to investing in medical research in collaboration with her Born This Way Foundation and went on Oprah’s Vision Tour to speak publicly about it.

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson drew attention for his entertaining fights in the WWE ring as The Rock but off screen he battled his mental health for decades. Dwayne Johnson’s depression started at the young age of 15 after traumatic events in his life. Since then he’s been an ardent advocate, encouraging his fans to seek help with mental health when needed. In one tweet he states “We all go through the sludge and depression never discriminates. Took me a long time to realize it but the key is not to be afraid to open up. Especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in. You’re not alone”
