The Narendra Modi government announced an emergency response package of Rs 23,123 crore on Thursday after holding the first meeting of its new cabinet.

Addressing a press briefing after the meeting, new Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the package will have provision for ICU beds, medicines, among other medical supplies.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, addressing the briefing, said APMCs will not be done away with, even after new (farm) laws were introduced. “The Centre had declared in Budget that APMC will be part of the Rs 1-lakh crore infrastructure fund. APMC can benefit from the fund through loans, interest waivers,” he added.
