In 1979 Professor S.R Rao an eminent archaeologist extensively researched the ancient submerged city of Dwarka through underwater excavations off the coast of Gujarat in India, providing significant evidence suggesting that the site could indeed be the legendary city of Dwarka mentioned in Hindu scriptures like Mahabharat & Vishnu Puran, and in the Jain, Buddhist & Greek ancient literatures. Urban structures, pottery, artifacts, and other archaeological remains found underwater, indicate the existence of a prosperous ancient Indian city making Dwarka one of the most intriguing submerged cities in the world! Archaeological findings and underwater explorations suggest the existence of a prosperous ancient city off the coast of present-day Dwarka, submerged under the Arabian Sea. While some historians are of the belief that the history of the ruins of Dwarka City should date 5500 years back, the archaeological findings show articles dating 9000 years back adding to the mystery of India's lost civilization.

Sri Krishna was the king of Dwarka & The legendary text Vishnu Puran mentions Sri Krishna predicting in advance that his city of Dwarka will submerge in the sea.
