Actor and documentarian Justin Baldoni, creator of the series My Last Days, was told when he was pitching the show—which focuses on people who are dying—that no one would watch it, to trim it to five minutes or less and that he shouldn’t use such an evocative title. He didn’t back down because he believes in telling stories that make a difference. “If it’s not real we shouldn’t be watching.” He asks the question: “How do we remember who we are as human beings? The answer: “Content reminds us who we are in an authentic way so we can live authentic lives.” Baldoni surprises My Last Days’ Claire Wineland, an 18 year-old with cystic fibrosis, with the opportunity to share her message of what it means to be genuinely proud of one’s life: “You will never be happy with what you get unless you are happy with what you have.”
