In this video, I’m showing you how to use PlastiKote woodstove paint in a rattle can to refresh and protect a metal BBQ/fire pit grate on my hobbit house setup. If your fire pit, BBQ, or metal grate is looking tired, rusty, or heat-worn, this simple DIY upgrade makes a huge difference.

I go step by step through the full process, starting with thoroughly cleaning the stove and metal surfaces, because cleaning your stove is key for any high-temperature paint job. I used SCRUBB Heavy Duty Degreaser to break down grease, soot, and built-up grime, followed by UltraGrime Wipes to lift off the residue and get the metal properly clean. This prep stage is essential if you want the paint to stick and last.

Once everything is clean and dry, I tape up the surrounding areas to keep edges neat and protect parts I don’t want sprayed. Then it’s time to apply the PlastiKote heat-resistant woodstove paint, straight from the rattle can. I cover spray distance, light even coats, drying time, and curing for a durable finish that can handle real heat.

This method works great for fire pits, BBQs, wood burners, stoves, and metal grates, especially outdoor builds like my hobbit house.
