Brayden Point Injury | He Point Exits Game Early With Apparent Knee Injury
Brayden Point’s night took a terrifying turn just moments after he did exactly what he does best. On January 12, 2026, the Tampa Bay Lightning star scored a power play goal early in the second period against the Philadelphia Flyers, putting Tampa Bay up 3 to 0 and completely controlling the game. Seconds later, everything changed.
As play continued, Flyers defenseman Cam York fell awkwardly into Point’s right leg. The knee bent in a way no one wants to see. Point immediately grabbed his leg, pulled off his gloves, and stayed down on the ice. When trainers arrived, it was clear he could not put any weight on it. Teammates helped him off, and he never returned to the game.
The Lightning went on to win 7 to 2 and extend their win streak, but the score quickly became secondary. As of January 13, the team has not released any official update on the severity or recovery timeline, leaving fans anxiously waiting. The timing could not be worse. Point had just recently returned from a previous injury and was playing some of his best hockey, putting up 19 points in his last 16 games.
On the season, the 29 year old has 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 36 games, ranking near the top of Tampa Bay’s scoring leaders. Beyond the NHL impact, this injury raises serious questions about his availability for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, where he was named to Team Canada.
A long term absence would be a massive blow not only for the Lightning but for Canada’s Olympic hopes.
