Mexico is the world’s largest silver producer, and 3 of the world’s top 5 silver-producing mines are located in the state of Zacatecas. Intermediate to low sulfidation epithermal systems in Mexico are commonly associated with carbonate-replacement-style deposits including mantos and skarns.

The world-class Fresnillo District in Zacatecas has recently experienced modern exploration leading to significant blind discoveries and modern mine building, including Juanicipio. In comparison, the neighbouring world-class Zacatecas District has undergone limited district consolidation and modern systematic geoscience.

Since 2019 Defiance Silver Corp has amalgamated a district-scale land package and is conducting discovery-focused mineral systems geoscience in the Zacatecas District.
