DO you need to raise your HDL if you are plant-based and have low LDL and total cholesterol?

The answer is no!
.
HDL known as “good” cholesterol, absorbs cholesterol and carries it back to the liver, where it is flushed from the body. That is why it is very important for people with high cholesterol/LDL to also have high HDL, because high levels of HDL cholesterol can lower your risk for heart disease and stroke by eliminating some of that excess cholesterol.

Most doctors only see cholesterol going UP over time, and therefore the advice to raise HDL is usually correct.
.
Now, if you have LOW cholesterol/LDL from eating a healthy plant-based diet, then you don't need high HDL to protect you anymore. So when a doctor says you need to start eating more fats to raise your HDL when you have low cholesterol and LDL, you know he she or he is on autopilot and not considering this pathway.
.
By the way, for clients on my hyper-nourishment protocol, which is a very specific protocol for accelerating cellular repair and disease reversal, the high amounts of omega-3 also raises HDL while the "bad" cholesterol" drops like a boulder off a clifff, which makes it extremely protective and effective for people with heart disease, and also doesn't get their doctors on high alert about HDL levels.

If you want to be safe just in case and raise your HDL without adding anything inflammatory, use flax and Chia seeds and they will improve your overall health, keep inflammation down, and raise HDL without raising any other bad cholesterol.
