National Highway 44 (NH 44) is the longest national highway in India, stretching approximately 4,113 kilometers (2,556 miles) from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, connecting major cities across the country.
It serves as a vital north-south corridor, facilitating trade, commerce, and tourism by linking regions from the northernmost point of the country to its southern tip.
The highway traverses through 12 states and one Union Territory—Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu—covering a vast network of cities including Srinagar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Agra, Gwalior, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Salem.
It was formed by merging seven former national highways, including the old NH 7, and is a key component of the National Highways Development Project's North-South Corridor
