Will the 27th Amendment Be Approved Today?

The 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill 2025 is set to be tabled in the Senate today, marking a decisive moment in Pakistan’s political history. The amendment proposes sweeping reforms, including the creation of a Federal Constitutional Court, the restructuring of Article 243, and the redefinition of the role of the Chief of Defence Forces.

According to parliamentary sources, the bill requires a two-thirds majority (64 votes) in the Senate. The ruling coalition currently holds 61 seats, meaning it must secure at least three opposition votes to pass the amendment. Opposition parties, however, have signaled resistance, making today’s session a potential political battlefield.
