Having won promotion to the Premier League in 1992, Blackburn Rovers set about building a team capable of competing at the very top of English Football. In came an array of signings to help in that aim, including 24 year old right winger, Stuart Ripley.

Ripley, signed from Middlesbrough for £1.3m, was Rovers' record signing for a few weeks in July 1992 until the arrival of Alan Shearer for £3.3m from Southampton.

The winger was to make an immediate impact for Rovers, scoring on his debut against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Ripley went on to score 9 goals in all competitions in his first season at Rovers, collecting 6 assists in the process as Rovers finished fourth in the Premier League.

Ripley's second season saw him score 4 goals and contribute 8 assists as Rovers finished runners up in the Premier League to title winners, Manchester United. Surprisingly, after scoring against Southampton in April 1994, Ripley would then go three and a half seasons without scoring a goal for Rovers. This goal drought would eventually be broken in December 1997 at home to West Ham.

Despite his goal drought, Ripley played a major part in Rovers' success in the 90s, including the famous title winning season in 1994/95, providing a number of key assists. The service of Ripley and Wilcox from the wings for the deadly SAS duo of Shearer and Sutton will never be forgotten by Rovers fans and Premier League viewers alike.

In Ripley's final season at Rovers, the 1997/98 season, Ripley helped the club to a top 6 finish in the Premier League and subsequently qualify for European football for the following season. His 10 goal contributions that season playing an important role.

After six years as a Rovers player, Stuart Ripley left the club to join Southampton in the summer of 1998. A title winner and one of the best wingers the Premier League has seen, Stuart Ripley will always be remembered fondly for what he did for Blackburn Rovers. Making 212 appearances for Rovers, chipping in with 36 assists and scoring 16 goals.
