After the concert in Tbilisi, where the Yale University International Chorus Diplomats of Song shared the stage with the Rustavi State Ensemble, we shared a meal together where many heartfelt toasts were said and songs were sung. One of the highlights must have been this performance of Chakrulo, a famous song as it was chosen to represent the entire musical culture of the Soviet Union in 1977, when it was engraved on a gold disc that went to outer space with the American Voyager II Mission. Everyone in the room was enthralled with this performance, not least the restaurant staff who all came out of the kitchens to witness. Long live Georgian polyphony!
