The cough syrup controversy has sent shockwaves across India. After the tragic deaths of 11 children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the Tamil Nadu government has banned the sale and storage of the controversial Coldref Syrup from October 1. The Health Department inspected the Kanchipuram manufacturing unit, collected samples, and sent them for lab testing to detect harmful chemicals like Diethylene Glycol.
The Central Government has also issued an advisory to all states and UTs — no cough or cold syrup should be given to children below 2 years. This move aims to protect infants from potentially toxic medicines.
