Soil-biodegradable plastic mulches (BDMs) are an alternative to traditionally Polyethylene mulch technology. During their lifetime BDMs will deteriorate and degrade. Degradation is the Measurable conversion or mineralization of C to CO2. Deterioration is the loss of physical or mechanical strength, as observed through physical strength testing, microscopic imaging, or sizable macroscopic alteration of morphology (e.g. rips, tears, and holes assessed visually).
