Fermanagh Lakelands - Lusty Beg and more

I've been bitten by the Fremanagh Lakelands bug. I really enjoyed this Lough Erne cruise with the weather being so kind to us we just cruised into Lusty Beg island without a bother. We stopped off at the neighboring island of Lusty More on our way and took a quick look around. But Lusty Beg was the jewel in the crown for me.

We got a nice lunch there and it was all washed down with a cold beer. Then we took a walk about and saw the chain ferry. This is an interesting boat and it's pulled over to the island on two long cables. It can carry cars as well as foot passengers and the crossing is a very short one.

There was a wedding on the island the day we visited and what a smashing location for one too. The island has lots of accommodation in a variety of chalets and houses.

After seeing Lusty Beg and with the weather still holding we decided to up sticks and head across the lake to the lonely mooring at Castle Caldwell. Now this is a quiet spot but it has some great walks with great views over Lough Erne. But if you're visiting make sure to bring your supplies. In fact that applies to a lot of the moorings on Lough Erne. With the three exceptions on Beleek, Enniskillen, and Belturbet there are few other places where you can do a bit of shopping.
