The plans had been set to include Cook Street as a logical portion of Victoria's cycling network, but our weak NIMBY kowtowing City Council caved into out-of-touch Cook Street businesses who stupidly thought that car lanes are bad for business; the opposite of reality.

Cook Street merchants chose motorists and car parking over people, customers and cyclists.

The long term future for Cook Street businesses looks grim, situated on one of the last busy, unsafe streets in the region, while a bicycle lane down Vancouver Street instead will keep cyclists and pedestrians away from the village on their way to the park and ocean.

From the ocean, it makes little sense to cut thru Cook Street Village anymore; congested with cars an on-street parking, the logical choice for cyclists and pedestrians will be to follow the waterfront bicycle/pedestrians lanes to their ends, rather than exit mid-way to ride/walk on a road busy with speeding cars.

Cook Street Merchants looked a gift horse in the mouth and chose to shoot themselves in the foot.
