Narasimha Avatar ( Fourth Incarnation of Lord Vishnu )

The fourth avatar of Dashavatara is Narasimha Avatar. Narasimhais a fierce avatar of the Lord Vishnu, one who incarnates in the form of part lion and part man to destroy evil and end religious persecution and calamity on Earth, thereby restoring Dharma.

Hiranyakashipu invited the wrath of Lord Vishnu by killing all those who refused to hail him as God. The demon king wanted to become the undisputed God of the Universe, and he mercilessly eliminated those, who refused to worship him. Among many of the opponents was his blood, Prahlad.

The fourth avatar was conceived in a such a manner that it nullified the boon Lord Brahma had granted to Hiranyakashipu. The demon could neither be killed by a man nor by an animal; neither at day nor at night; neither at home nor outside; neither on the ground nor in the sky; neither by a weapon nor by supernatural powers.

Therefore, Lord Vishnu appeared as a half-man-half-lion. He killed Hiranyakashipu at dusk at the threshold of his house by making him lie on his lap and executing him with his claws. Hiranyakashipu had believed that the boon granted by Brahma would make his immortal, but Lord Vishnu outsmarted him by appearing as Narasimha.

Thus, Vishnu saved Prahlad and restored peace by appearing as Narasimha.
