This video is a look at Wilshire/Western Station, an underground heavy rail subway station on the Purple Line, part of the LA Rail System. As it was with the other Station videos, we look around at the station, the platform, the entrance, and try to get a good look at the station for posterity. And yes, LA has its own subway system. Apparently some people think its a myth.
Currently, this is 1 of the 2 Purple Line Exclusive Stations, as well as being the Western Terminus for the Line. Originally, this branch opened up under the Red Line Name, an extension to the west from the original terminus, MacArthur Park Station. It was to extend further West, but everything that could go wrong went wrong from Methane Gas Explosions and Sinkholes to Political Opposition halted the plans. In time, from Wilshire/Vermont, another Branch to North Hollywood was opened, leaving this branch at only 2 further extensions. In 2006, Metro renamed this branch to the Purple Line to help passengers avoid confusion between the two lines. Currently, Metro is working on the Purple Line Extension, and as of this video, Phase 1 is under construction. By 2026, the full extension will be completed and the Purple Line will end near the VA Hospital. But as of now, this is a look at the station in its current state.
These videos were inspired by bitoftheday's uploads (A great source of retro footage of the LA Metro Rail trains dating back as early as the mid 90's, so I want to document these stations for people in the future who are curious of what they looked like in this era), and the subwaynut (a website dedicated to pictures of train systems around the US, with major focus on the NYC Subway).
Dont forget the video is in 1080P and 60FPS, stay tuned for more LA Rail Station videos. (Trying to have new videos always uploaded on Mondays)
