The Chen Family were the originators of Tai Chi as a fighting sport, and in turn Yang Lu-Chan (1799-1872) of the renowned Yang Family, absorbed the Chen style martial techniques, which included Chi Kung, Chan Su Jing, Chan Su Kung, as well as weaponry components, where the spear (Qiang) and broadsword ((Dao) similar to a halberd, are part of the the Tai Chi martial science regimen.

Notice the speed of the Tao Lu/martial routine in this film and how the enterprising form-play configures with the Yang Family's 'moderate' speed. This routine is classically recognized as a preemptive combative approach to the Tai Chi form-play.

Jet Li, in dynamic counterpose, can be seen to perform Tai Chi Ch'uan in the ultimate high-speed, 3rd entrainment velocity. In 1979, Jet Li received his highest achievement in martial arts when he was crowned Tai Chi Gold Champion at the Chinese National Martial Arts Competition.
