Cat. 3 Cyclone Kirrily crosses the coast near Townsville

Tropical Cyclone Kirrily is now crossing the coast near Townsville, the Bureau of Meteorology says. The cyclone is estimated to be roughly 30kms off the coast of Townsville and is travelling at 26km/h. The category three system is producing winds near the centre of 120 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 165 kilometres per hour. The cyclone is expected to weaken as it moves inland.
