Details about the song "Gesi Bağları" ("Gardens of Gesi") : "It`s a Turkish folk song from the Kayseri province in Anatolia. Composer and lyricist of the song are unknown.
'Gesi Bağları' was edited in the 1940s by Muzaffer Sarisozen who undertook a number of expeditions into the rural areas of Turkey to collect thousands of folk songs.
Ahmet Gazi Ayhan is also credited with compiling the song.
Since then, 'Gesi Bağları' has become very popular in Turkey and other turkic countries. There are few Turkish singers who haven’t included the song in their repertoires.
'Gesi Bağları' is a song about separation and loss. Different back stories have been circulated to make sense of the ambiguous lyrics. Let’s consider one of them:
This song is about a young girl - Leyla, she married Mustafa from a distant village.
But after having married her husband, she is treated badly by him and his whole family.
Therefore she misses her mom so much. One day she heard that her mother died.
Leyla sings this song tributing her mother while walking through «Gesi Baglari» which is a beautiful place in the city of Kayseri, Turkey."
