Originally this basspart is a synth bass. That’s why I’ve covered this song on a 5-string bass on my other video    • Chicago Hard to say I'm sorry. Bass C...

But it’s also a wonderful song to play on a 4-string bass!!
The chords in this song are very interesting. It starts already in the intro in bar 2 and 3 where the bass plays other notes than the rootnote of the chord.
Because of the low tempo of the song (bpm = 73) the 16th and even 32th notes have to be played very exact.
And ofcourse there this fast lick in the second half of this song (Get Away)!
This song is played in three (!) keys. It starts in E major, than you get Chorus 3 which is in G major and the Outro (Get Away) is in F# (F sharp) major.

00:00 intro
00:53 Pre Chorus 1
01:05 Chorus 1
01.36 Verse 2
02:02 Pre Chorus 2
02:29 Chorus 2
02:57 Chorus 3 (transposed)
03:54 Interlude
04:11 Outro (Get Away)

Standard tuning E A D G. I play this song on a Blade B2 bass. No effects used except a bit compression, reverb and a pre-amp. Don't forget to tune you bass just a bit down (A4 = 437 Hz).

Bass: Peter Cetera
Album: Chicago 16 (1982)
Composers: Cetera, Foster (Hard to say I’m sorry); Cetera, Foster, Lamm (Get away)
