In this guest presentation, the Honorable Mary Logan will discuss the use of problem-solving and harm reduction theories when attempting to navigate people out of the criminal legal system.

Judge Mary Logan has been practicing law for 37 years. She is licensed in California (1988) and in Washington (1996) and has a broad base of experience as an attorney starting as a medical malpractice attorney from 1988 until 1994 then hired by the civil defense firm representing 13 cities along the central coast of California. In 1996 she moved to Spokane. She was hired by the City of Spokane Public Defender’s Office in 1997 and appointed to the municipal court in 2009. She was presiding judge of the Spokane Municipal Court from 2009 through 2014 and again from 2021 through 2023.
Judge Logan was elected to the DMCJA Board of Governors from 2010 through 2014 and again from 2014 through 2024. She has been a board of judicial administration representative of the DMCJA and is assigned to the Budget and Finance Committee. She was on the Education Committee and is currently on the Therapeutic Courts Committee, Diversity Committee and Trial Court Sentencing and Supervision Committee. She is the Pre-Trial Task Force co-chair, DV Task Force co-chair and is active in the Judicial Assistance Services Program and NSCI Judges COVID-19 Benchbook Task Force. Mary is also Dean Emeritus – x2 sessions - for Judicial College.
She was awarded the Justice Hero Award for work in community court from the Center for Justice in 2014, the Certificate of Excellence Mayoral Award for teamwork involving work with community court in 2014 and the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her work with veterans in Veterans’ Enhanced Therapeutic Court for the City of Spokane. She was also awarded the Judicial Leadership Award in 2015 from the Access to Justice Board, the Presidential Award from the DMCJA in 2023-2024. In 2025, the Spokane County Bar Association Judicial Evaluation designate Mary an exceptionally well qualified judicial officer. The Spokane Municipal Community Court, of which Mary is a member, was awarded the Washington State Bar APEX Award of Merit in September 2018.
