Abstract: Our flow-through fluorescent immunoassay system contains a disposable capillary tube which inner surface are coated with Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods to attach antibodies. The ZnO coating not only provides large surface areas for high density antibodies attachment but also enhances fluorescent signals to significantly improve the output responses. The capillary also allows convenient flow-through detection. Coupled with a customized handheld analyzer integrating an automatic pump system and a fluorescence readout module, the immunoassay system enables quantitative detection biomarkers in 30 min with detection limits of 1-5 ng/ mL and wide dynamic ranges for selected antigens in serum.
