CHKDSK (pronounced check disk), sometimes referred to as disk check, is a command that displays a status report for a volume, such as a disk, and can correct any errors found in that volume. There are a few switches in chkdsk command that can be useful to sys admin. The one I am demonstrating today is the /f switch. Please note, that computers must have the Autochk.exe file already on their system. Autochk will be already installed on all Windows versions. It is not recommended to interrupt the check disk, but you may interrupt chkdsk at any point. Canceling or interrupting chkdsk should not leave the volume any more corrupt than it was before chkdsk was run. This command is valid in both Windows Desktop and Servers operating systems. It is recommended to run the chkdsk command occasionally on mission-critical devices such as Windows Servers.
