Proper Shot Placement for Bowhunting Black Bears!

Описание к видео Proper Shot Placement for Bowhunting Black Bears!

In this video we are discussing the proper shot placement for bowhunting Black Bears! Whether it's a Spring or Fall hunt, black bears are very challenging targets. Most black bears being completely black, with long fur, makes it very difficult to determine where the vitals are sitting on that animal.

The vitals on a black bear sit differently than whitetails and because of this, a lot of hunters will make an improper shot due to lack of understanding of their vitals.

First off, Always Always Always take a broadside shot on a bear. The goal should always be getting two holes. Quartering shots on bears have proven very difficult to effectively get two holes.

You will often times hear bear hunters talk about hitting the "middle of the middle." Meaning Half way up the bears body, and halfway inbetween the front and back of the body. This shot will get you somewhere in the range of back of lungs, and liver.

While this shot is deadly, we are strong proponents of a double lung shot on black bears. If you draw a line up the crease of a black bears leg, and move a few inches back from that you will be in a perfect double lung shot.

However, the positioning of that bears leg is crucial. You want that bear's leg to be forward before taking the shot. The bone structure on black bears is astounding. The leg bone is like that of a steel pipe, and the scapula is quite thicker than that of a whitetail. It also has TWO scapular ridges that will without a doubt stop your arrow.

When it comes to black bears, patience is key. Wait for the perfect double lung shot and you will have no trouble recovering that animal!
