WOODFALLS BAND and DOWNTON BAND - The Music Makers 1991

An episode of the TVS series The Music Makers featuring WOODFALLS BAND and DOWNTON BAND as they prepare for the 1991 Regional Contest where the test piece was Journey into Freedom by Eric Ball.

This is followed by a very short separate programme focussed mainly on RON BLIGH that also has footage of WOODFALLS BAND conducted by WESLEY GARNER. I don't have any details about this programme and assume it was on local television and broadcast around the same time as The Music Makers.

These programmes are a wonderful snapshot of brass banding in the late 1980s (not much was different by 1991) which is when I started playing with WOODFALLS 'B' BAND, also conducted by RON BLIGH. The footage of rehearsals, backstage at the contest, and the contest performances themselves are fantastic to watch - no smartphone cameras in those days!

Recorded on VHS from the TV broadcast and converted to digital without any attempt to adjust audio or video.
