Korea′s manufacturing sector，... which has been the heartbeat of the nation′s economy for many decades，... has been having a torrid time over the past couple of years.
But，... while annual growth has been stumbling along in the zero－percent range for the past couple of years，... the number of people employed in the industry is at its highest point since the late 1990s.

The number of jobs in Korea′s manufacturing industry has been on an upward trend for 32 straight months，... hitting a 17－year high.
Statistics Korea says over four－point－four million people had jobs in the sector in February，... up three－point－seven percent from a year ago.
The industry has added new jobs steadily since the 1970s，... before job growth slowed in the wake of the Asian Financial Crisis and then again during the 2008 global financial crisis.
But growth picked up on the back of the economic recovery and has been on a steady rise since 2010.
Production in the manufacturing sector grew nearly 17 percent on－year in 2010 and six percent in 2011.
But what′s notable now is that production in the manufacturing sector has slowed sharply.
The industry has only recorded growth in the zero percent range since 2013.
Experts say this mismatch in expansion is being driven by the creation of new types of manufacturing jobs，... and more people in their 50s and 60s actively looking for work.
They also point to an increased number of foreigners working in the sector，... with more than 410－thousand employed in 2014，... up about ten percent from the previous year.
But some experts have voiced concerns that the phenomenon could lead to employment without growth.
