"She's Not There" is the debut single by British rock band The Zombies, written by organist Rod Argent.
I’ve always felt for the type of music they played, jazzy rock, that name of the band didn’t fit.

According to the lyrics of this song, the narrator has unsatisfactory dealings with an untrustworthy woman. He reproaches unspecified associates for failing to warn him of her unsavory character:
"Well no one told me about her / The way she lied."

The real inspiration behind the song, however, was Argent's first love, Patricia, who called off their wedding weeks before and broke his heart.

Rod Argent was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Zombies, March 2019. He also had hit with “Hold Your Head Up”; the band was uniquely named “Argent”. His Hammond B3 solo on that track is cited by Rick Wakeman as the greatest organ solo ever.

“She’s Not There” was a hit for Santana when it appeared on their 1977 album Moonflower. Bassist: David Margen.
Santana followed up with the 1978 album Inner Secrets covering another 60’s hit: “Stormy” by the Classics IV.

Cover Notes:
Obviously, my mix has increased volume for the bass so with headphones and zero post software I definitely hear my fingers prepping for the next note…many silent spaces in the song to magnify such issues.
If you listen closely to the original with headphones, the first 6 seconds has a distinct timing meter.
