BMW E46/N42: Drive belt Pulley Noises (#189)

"Clack, clack, clack" noises can be heard after the air pump automatically switched off from the cold engine start. After a few minutes running, the noises get less frequently.

I have replaced the drive belt tension pulley but the noises are still there. I guess the noises may come from the alternator idler pulley or the alternator itself.

A shorter drive belt (1870mm instead of 1885mm) was installed earlier. I am not sure if the shorter drive belt caused the noises.
