Mammoth Soap (  / mammothsoaps  ) dropped Almond Leather, on March 7, 2019 through their distribution deal with West Coast Shaving (https://www.westcoastshaving.com/). This drop supports the charity Restore NYC (https://restorenyc.org/), to which Mammoth Soaps donates $1 per tub sold to fight human trafficking.

Almond Leather is Mammoth’s first attempt at a simplistic scent. Notes featured are: Leather, Almond, Orange Blossom and Frankincense. This is a leather forward accord, a soft suede like leather is the main note. There is a hint of cherry-ish almond and perhaps some faint orange blossom, but in general, the scent is soft leather dominant. As I do enjoy a leather forward scent, this is in my wheelhouse. This is not approved for use by Mrs. Ruds, however. Strength of scent is mid-strong both off the container and once lathered. Similar scents from the wet shaving environment are: Chatillon Lux /Declaration Grooming Gratiot League Square and Talbot Shaving /Catie's Bubbles Lantern Hill.

Mammoth Soap utilizes a tallow and duck fat soap base. The ingredients are listed as: stearic acid, water, beef tallow, duck fat, kokum butter, glycerin, castor oil, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, fragrance, murumuru butter, argan oil, lanolin, sodium lactate, tocopherol. The soap is of mid firmness and load very easily into your brush. The base can take a lot of water but doesn’t demand anymore than would be expected from an animal fat based soap. The lather structure is much like cool whip when dialed in. It has high volume and average density to it. The slickness stands with many good animal fat soaps both in terms of primary and secondary slickness. Post shave is luxurious and is the star of this base. Given the overall performance of this soap base, Mammoth Soaps receives a ShaveScore of 89. Soaps with similar performance are Chiseled Face and Mickey Lee Soapworks.
