Ruscus aculeatus 'Elizabeth Lawrence' is a very slow growing, heavy fruiting, dwarf form of the Mediterranean native butcher's broom. A mature clump of this cultivar looks incredibly festive in the winter garden with it's compact dark green foliage and an abundance of red berries. Ruscus are great plants for dry shade, requiring almost no care. Young shoots are soft and edible and should be protected in areas with heavy deer and rabbit pressure. Zones: 7a to 9b, at least.
