United Nations - Excessive rainfall in late July has disrupted life in Milongkyaung Village, an island in Central Myanmar where some 1,700 people live. Rice fields were submerged during the flooding, destroying this year's rice crop, and wrecking homes in the aftermath.

Farmers have since replanted but the harvest will be much later than expected. People are used to the annual heavy rains during the monsoon season but this year they say that four feet of water inundated their village for seven days. It was the first time they had seen so much water.
