Beautiful and Bold - Carnival Dutch Pour Fluid Art

Carnival!! 20x24inch canvas

This weekends painting, which I’m planning to embellish with gold leaf once dry. There was so much paint on this canvas, I’m hoping it dries ok.

So, carnival is vibrant and bright and on my favourite colour base, deep turquoise. I wanted to create the effect of colours blending into brighter petals at the tips, and in doing so, split the colours so they didn’t flow all the way through the composition. So starting with purples and blues at the bottom, flowing into pinks and oranges at the top!

There’s a lot of iridescent paint in this one, so it will shine brightly once varnished. The gold leaf will define the petals as I lost the definition due to the amount of paint on the canvas. You don’t realise how much is on there until it’s being blown out and you can see the wave of paint rolling under the air!

All paints are mixed with European Owatrol Floetrol and water. I use a ratio of 2 parts floetrol to 1 part paint and 1 part water. This mixture works for me and the effects I want to create.

Colours used:
Base - Deep Turquoise W&N
Colours - Pebeo iridescent gold, precious gold, iridescent orange yellow, iridescent blue green and iridescent green blue, Amsterdam blue violet and vermillion, Arteza Pearl White and Raspberry Red and Permanent Rose by W&N!
