It’s not a complicated idea, but executing it well has proven difficult over the years. From amazing highs to discouraging lows, it’s no surprise that most titles abandoned the core FPS elements in exchange for other genre elements.

But for those that do continue the legacy of an arguably bygone era, one hurdle seems difficult to overcome.
