How to install WSL and Linux on Windows 11

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is a feature of Windows that allows you to run a Linux environment on your Windows machine, without the need for a separate virtual machine or dual booting. WSL is designed to provide a seamless and productive experience for developers who want to use both Windows and Linux at the same time.
1. Open PowerShell as Administrator:
○ Right-click the Start button and select Windows Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
○ Confirm the User Account Control prompt.
2. Install WSL:
○ In the Windows Terminal window, type the following command and press Enter:
wsl --install, (wsl --uninstall), (wsl --unregister Ubuntu)
○ This command will enable the necessary features and install the default Linux distribution, which is Ubuntu
3. Restart Your Computer:
○ After the installation process completes, restart your computer to apply the changes.
4. Set Up Your Linux Distribution:
○ Once your computer restarts, the Linux distribution will launch, and you’ll be prompted to create a username and password for your Linux environment.
5. Verify Installation:
○ Open PowerShell or Windows Terminal and type:
wsl --status, wsl --version, wsl --list --verbose, wsl --list –online, wsl --help
6. Install Additional Distributions (Optional):
○ If you want to install a different Linux distribution, you can use the following command:
wsl --install -d (DistributionName)
○ Replace (DistributionName) with the name of the distribution you want to install (e.g., Debian, Kali, etc.)
