Playdough Surgery - Broken Ankle Bone Surgery aka Fibular Fracture ORIF 🦴

The fibula is the skinny non-weight bearing bone of the outer lower leg that stabilizes and supports the ankle. Fractures are common.

Our “patient” was a real couch potato (pota-dough?) who met with his wonderful PCP and was inspired (through years of rapport) to adopt healthy lifestyle changes including an exercise plan. Unfortunately, during a hike on rocky terrain, he sustained a fibular fracture in need of repair.

We performed an open reduction (surgically putting the bone pieces together) and internal fixation (hardware used to keep bones in place) - a small setback, and our former couch potato was back to his exercise plan soon after! 🏃🏻
