The first of its kind, it utilized an analog synth module with CV/Gate control via Roland’s 24-pin interface and heavily modified guitar pickups system. Fast-forward nearly 50 years, 19 fewer pins, and numerous reiterations, and the GM-800 — released under BOSS — delivers a complex, cutting-edge suite of synthesis possibilities, controlled completely from your bass or guitar. More than 1,200 onboard presets from Roland’s Zen-Core engine, known for powering their Jupiter X, Juno X, and Fantom synths, accompany a comprehensive array of connectivity options, including footswitch control, expression inputs, and direct computer linking.
