The Id Kah Mosque is an ancient architectural complex with a strong national and religious style, and is a model of Uyghur ancient architectural art, becoming a local symbol of the ancient city of Kashgar and famous in China and abroad. After the ruler of Kashgar, Shaksez Mirza, was buried here in Ming Dynasty (1436-1449), his descendants built a small mosque, which was the predecessor of the Id Kah Mosque. The mosque was also an important school for spreading Islamic culture, cultivating talents. Many Islamic clerics and scholars, and others including some influential poets, literary scholars, historians and translators, who were influential in religious circles both at home and abroad, studied here in ancient times.

The prominence of the Id Kah Mosque is not in its size, but in the fact that it is the "gathering place" for Muslims throughout Xinjiang Area. Every day, 2,000-3,000 people come here to worship. On Friday afternoon, Gurma Day, male Muslims from near and far come here for the most solemn worship of the week, and the number of people could reach 6,000-7,000. At the annual Gurban festival, Muslims from all over the Xinjiang Province will come here. The number of people at the big event can reach 20,000-30,000. After the great worship, there are many people dancing inside and outside the mosque with music. Muslims dance to the rhythm of the "shaman dance" (women are not allowed to participate) and revel will last all night.
