"Not all surfers make the big bucks.
While Mick, John, Gab, and a couple others are raking in million-dollar deals, the average "pro" is lucky to bank $100k in endorsement deals per annum, half of which goes toward competition and travel.
Some don't make enough to survive.
We're not sure exactly what Benny Howard's making from his Dane-and-Craig-endorsed sponsorship with Former, but whatever it is, the Australian still makes time each week to work as a large-machine operator for his dad's company.
Despite Benny's distaste for truck culture ("they're fat, unhealthy, smoke heaps of ciggies, unhappy"), he says he wants to work his way up the truck driver ladder and become a road-train driver, who apparently make the most money in the field.
"I like it as well," Benny says.
