A páva a szépséget, a szabadságot, a nemességet és az éberséget jelképezi. A kiterjesztett tollain pompázó sok-sok szem jelképezi a mindent látó szemet, azaz a bölcsességet, a magasabb rendű látóképességet szimbolizálja. A pávatoll ragyogó színét nem a megfelelő színű pigmentek adják. A pávatollban nincsen kék és zöld színezőanyag, saját pigmentje a sötétbarna színű melanin. A színkavalkádot, a jellegzetes irizáló kék, illetve zöld színt a pávatoll vékony lemezeinek rétegződése adja, illetve a tollba bejutó fénysugarak, melyek interferencián mennek keresztül. Az így kapott fényhullám mintái adják a gyönyörű színeket, amelyeket az emberi szem lát. Az elképesztő színskála attól függően változhat, hogy milyen szögből nézzük. Ezt a hihetetlen és egyedi szépséget próbálták meg „visszaadni” a herendi mesterek. Nézzék meg, és döntsék el, sikerült-e 

The peacock symbolizes beauty, freedom, nobility, and vigilance. The many eyes shining on its outstretched feathers provide the all-seeing eye symbolizing wisdom and higher vision. The brilliant colours of peacock feathers are not due to the pigments of the corresponding colours. Peacock feathers don’t contain blue or green colouring matter, their own pigment is dark brown melanin. The cavalcade of colours and the characteristic iridescent blue and green colour are given by the layering of the thin plates of peacock feathers and the light rays entering the feathers, which pass through interference. The resulting light wave patterns give the beautiful colours that the human eye can see.
