The Batthyány Eternal Flame (or Lajos Batthyány Eternal Flame) is a monument in district V of Budapest, on the square formed by the intersection of Báthory Street and Hold Street. He was executed here – in the courtyard of the former New Building – in 1849. on 6 October Count Lajos Batthyány (1807–1849), Hungary first responsible prime minister.

History
The capital decided to erect the monument in 1905, and the winner of the design competition was architect Móric Pogány. Due to the First World War, implementation was delayed. The ceremonial unveiling 1926. It happened on October 6, at which István Lebó, the last living Hungarian soldier of 1848, was present.

Political events
The monument was the site of opposition street demonstrations several times (1941, 1943, 1988).[1]

Description
The candle is located inside a purple glass cup placed in a bronze holder, resting on a pedestal with three steps. The lantern is 180 centimeters tall and stands on 4 feet.
