Rathmullan were edged out in a pulsating Brian McCormick Cup Area Final this afternoon by Letterkenny Rovers at the Flagpole Field.
On an afternoon where we had the late Kieran McGrath foremost in our thoughts, it's not hard to believe that Rovers had a little help from above as Daniel Hall headed their winner six minutes into stoppage time.
The Hoops had twice come from behind to level the tie, with goals from Mark McAteer and Oisin McMenamin, but on this day, it just wasn't meant to be for the home side.
Before the game, Rathmullan skipper Eoin Sheridan gave Rovers captain Ronan Curran a pennant in Kieran's memory, while both teams and the match officials came together for a photo as our club presented Rovers with a wreath to commemorate the enormous contribution that Mr Soccer Donegal had on our game locally.
Today's game was one he'd have loved. Some cracking goals, spicy challenges, an odd argument with the officials and a late, dramatic winner.
Good luck to Stephen McConnell and his team in the semi-final next weekend and commiserations to our own Bhoys, who once again gave it their all this afternoon and left nothing in the tank.
