Tribute To Neil Peart - Pieces Of Eight

Here is my tribute to the life of Neil Peart. So much has been written in the past month of Neil and I too wanted to voice my sense of loss for one of the strongest musical inspirations in my life. I guess I didn’t realize until his passing just how much of an influence he was on me.

To pay homage to this great man, I thought I would reconstruct a lesser known work of his (if there is such a thing)… “Pieces Of Eight”. This was a “sound supplement” that was included in an issue of Modern Drummer Magazine in May, 1987. I still have the original magazine!

I still remember putting this flimsy plastic record sheet on my turntable and playing it until it damn near disintegrated! It is from that recording that I reconstructed the marimba & synths on the keyboards and recorded the drums overtop.

I hope you enjoy my interpretation of this master work!
